Mariah: Hot Shot Debut On Three Major Charts
April 28, 2008 – 11:24 amA closer look at the Greatest Gainers, Hot Shot Debuts and Pacesetters on this week’s Billboard charts.
Hot Shot Debuts: Mariah Carey makes for one heck of a hot shot this week as her album “E=MC2″ earns Hot Shot Debut awards on three major charts: The Billboard 200, The Billboard Hot 100 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. On the big chart, Carey checks into the penthouse suite to claim her sixth No. 1 with sales of 463,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan, the best one-week tally of her career and also the best sales week of 2008 thus far. With this triumph, Carey ties Madonna and Janet Jackson for second-most No. 1 albums by a female artist. The three trail only Barbra Streisand, who has eight.
Carey also lands at the summit of Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. This is Carey’s 15th charting effort on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
Carey’s performance of “Bye Bye” on the April 16 edition of “American Idol” helps propel the track to a No. 23 debut on the Hot 100, as does a healthy serving of digital sales. The song moved 60,000 downloads this week, earning it the No. 11 spot on Hot Digital Songs.
